Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Almost everything that happens in the movie is borrowed, more or less frankly, from old movie lore. In a way, that's also a strength: This is a musical about musicals, as well as being a tap dance movie about tap dancers. CJ Excellent movie of music, rhythm, love, compassion and forgiveness. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/23/23 Full Review uncle p Story/Screenplay: (2.5/5) Formulaic at its roots, this story is dependent on the interest of tap dance as an art form. If you like tap, you'll like this story. If not, this story does nothing to generate interest nor does it succeed on its own merits. Dull and a bit boring. Duration/Tempo: (2.5/5) At 1 hour and 51 minutes, it's an average length movie that felt long. Take away the tap and the film shortens significantly, but it would still feel long. Cast & Crew: (2.5/5) Gregory Hines was OK, but Sammy Davis Jr. was better. Unfortunately, there's not much here to give either of them a story to work with. Summary: (2.5/5) The story and cast were mediocre and the film felt long. A thumbs down.
