In the anime Tekkonkinkreet, two orphans of life's storms sail through the air like birds, like superheroes, like Jackie Chan. Go to Full Review

Borrowing in equal measures from innocuous child fantasies and Street Fighter, the colorfully imaginative world of Tekkonkinkreet has its fair share of marvels. Go to Full Review

Somewhat resembles Paprika, another recent piece of Japanimation. But director Michael Arias, a Tokyo-based American, doesn't fuse his striking graphics to a story anywhere near as satisfying. Go to Full Review

London S Jul 21 A foundational film for my forming artistic mind. There is so much going on visually that, despite the comparatively more simple plot, one can get lost and give it up as too high-concept or outright nonsensical. What you must not do is take it at face value. Remember, this is the perception of children. This is how children see their experiences, how they embellish them, how they fill in the gaps in their understanding. I’m glad I saw it first at 14 years old, or I may have given up. Now with each successive viewing over the years, it delivers more and more to match my ever-increasing life experience. Enter your childhood mind, let TEKKONKINKREET wash over you, come out feeling mournful, then cleansed, then hopeful.
