alvpop1 A very heartfelt performance by John Hurt, enjoyed it more on the second viewing. Adapted from a stage play so fairly static but deserves recognition as insightful attempt to address a feeling of mortality by one of Englands greatest actors in that exact position himself. Good supporting cast especially Charles Dance, lots of hidden meaning and irony. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/23/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is absolutely brilliant! Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times ....this is a lovely and old-fashioned character study with some sly humor and, of course, more than a couple of reach-for-the-tissues moments. Rated: 3/4 Nov 7, 2020 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The beauty of Hurt's complex performance is the helplessness in his eyes as his mouth spews its poisonous cruelty - he's a hostage to what used to be wit but now just feels like petty spite. Rated: 3/5 May 13, 2018 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian The human interaction, alas, remains hidebound: it's another of those scripts about a writer where the protagonist has been developed at everybody else's expense. Rated: 2/5 May 11, 2018 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming That Good Night plays everything far too safe ... for it to be considered anything more than forgettable fluff Rated: 2/5 Feb 6, 2021 Full Review Tom Cassidy Common Sense Media Family drama has one-sided anti-euthanasia message. Rated: 2/5 Dec 2, 2020 Full Review Karen Martin Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Performances aside, Eric Styles' creaky, sentimental film is mainly of morbid interest. Hurt does well here, but this is not what we should remember him by. Nov 6, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
