Audience Member "A complicated man"? That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface. I have wanted to see this for a very long time, but I think my hopes were a bit too high. I was expecting a much longer documentary. Of course I knew there woudln't be actual footage of him...I've only seen a short where he is being interviewed about his thoughts on his tales being put into films. On that day he said he did not think that would be a good idea; and I think that were he alive today, he would be very dissapointed in what has been created. Although Stuart Gordon has done well on a few things. Does anyone truly grasp what lies in his tales? Do they understand it enough to put it on film? Or better yet, would they have the courage to do so?! I never expected this to be done by the French, but it's nice to see he took an interest in it. And I have to say that the silluette puppet somehow looked very much like Lovecraft. If I didn't know what this film was about, I would know that it was him. And when his words were quoted, they gave me chills. For those who wish to know more about Lovecraft's life, there is a chronological time line in the book Lovecraft: Tales, by the Library of America. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A great way to spend Walpurgis night! This curious little documentary is remarkable for its use of stock footage, second-person narration, and steering clear of the world Lovecraft constructed. What we get instead is the horror and claustrophobia and derangement that created space for the mythology to germinate. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Very interesting & artistic "avantgarde documentary" on the life & works of H.P. Lovecraft.
