Audience Member This black and white Czech movie is only 87 minutes long, yet it is slow-paced and not much happens : a pack of women in a postapocalyptic world wander around and they kill a dog, a snake and a cow. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this in the early 70s, but it has stuck with me. A shocker, but not in the current sense. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review walter m "The End of August at the Hotel Ozone" starts with countdowns in various languages, signifying the beginning of a worldwide nuclear war.(For some reason, they left out the little girl counting flower petals...) The explosions did not kill as many people as the radiation did and fifty years later there are only a handful of survivors, all young women, led by Dagmar(Beta Ponicanova) who is the only one old enough to remember the old world. While they are scavenging for supplies, she is more interested in finding male survivors who could kickstart the human race. "The End of August at the Hotel Ozone" is an intriguing allegory about the need to let go sometimes. Currently, the women exist in a state of childlike innocence, living in a Garden of Eden. There is a snake but he is quickly disposed of. Dagmar is well-intentioned in wanting to return to the old world by finding men but considering what a mess they made of it the first time around, do they really deserve another chance?
