Geoff Pevere Toronto Star Fascinatingly evokes not just the gruelling, first-person details of this particular polar expedition, but the waning moments of the entire spirit of romantic, white-European Boy's Own adventurism. Feb 1, 2002 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Footage from a remarkable silent documentary has been combined with new photography, music and a narration to produce an even more remarkable sound documentary. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 4, 2002 Full Review John Petrakis Chicago Tribune Most of all, it is a salute to Shackleton himself, whose calm and grace under extreme pressure helped guarantee that not a single crew member would be lost. Jan 3, 2002 Full Review Phil Hall Film Threat So-so documentary on ill-fated South Pole journey. Rated: 2.5/5 Dec 8, 2002 Full Review Ryan Cracknell Apollo Guide The interesting and almost unbelievable subject matter legitimizes the legend of Ernest Shackleton, even if it is a little slow in the process. Audience Member An already miraculous story of survival during one of the most dangerous journeys ever embarked on is seriously catapulted into thrill ride territory with the wonderful editing, musical score and meditative narration. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing story! Rent it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member What an amazing documentary! Low wages, bitter cold, return to safety doubtful. Seriously, stuff like this amazes me...one that they even attempted this, two the perseverance to survive and three, the grace that watched over all 28 of them as none of them died during this 21month ordeal. Beautiful scenes, loved that 3 expert clibers tried to follow in their footsteps with high tech gear and food, took three days what these guys did in 36hrs and the photos and movies actually taken by those on the expedition. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member "Ship and stores have gone, so now we'll go home." Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member nothing short of amazing, one of my all time fav. docs Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member remarkable documentary Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
