01/17/2015 Minimalistic nihilism are the only two words I can think of to describe this bizarre realization on the futility of life. See more 07/04/2013 It may not be as fun as Hertzfeldt's previous work, but The Meaning of Life certainly is much more ambitious. This right here is why this guy is one of the best animators out there. This movie gave me a feeling of levity and intrigue into the world around me afterward and that says something since its only 12 minutes long. This is philosophy. That is the conclusion I have come to, its philosophy. This measly 12-minute short provokes questions that the Scholars and philosophers are discussing. What is the meaning of life? This movie really showed me how insignificant human life really is. I mean, how insignificant it is in relation to the rest of the ginormous universe, not in relation to each other. Its so vast and has so much wonder, The Meaning of Life accurately depicted this like no other. I haven't seen a finer film on the subject if philosophy since Fight Club. He clearly worked really hard on it and it shows. It has tremendous animation, great character designs, and his choice of musical pieces couldn't be better. Don Hertzfeldt quickly became one of my favorite animators, and if "Billy's Balloon" and "Rejected" hadn't one me over, "The Meaning of Life" surely tipped the scale.
