David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...it's certainly not difficult to see why the film has been forgotten in the years since its 1957 release. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 28, 2014 Full Review John J. Puccio Movie Metropolis While the ending gets fairly manic, you'd expect that of what is essentially a screwball British comedy. ...funny stuff. Rated: 7/10 Jul 22, 2012 Full Review Read all reviews

isla s Barely amusing, fairly mediocre farce type fare. The characters aren't particularly likeable and Sellers doing a (supposedly) strong Scottish accent made me cringe. His Irish one wasn't much better either. This is cringe-y fair all around. There were maybe a couple of moments that made me giggle but that's about it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A reckless journalist who pretends he plans to publish a magazine called ' The Naked Truth', gathers ransom from half of the town with the threats to blackmail his victims. The important and noble ladies and gentlemen caught at being simple crooks quickly turn into potential killers, and while trying to kill the journalist, also kill themselves. The strong and eventful plot doesn't make this oldie any more modern. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Nigel Dennis (Dennis Price) is the publisher of a scandal sheet called The Naked Truth. He has the dirt on some of Britain's most prominent figures, and if they can't pay him 10,000 pounds each in two weeks, their stories hit the presses in four. Four of the people being blackmailed are: Melissa Right (Shirley Eaton), a beautiful model whose only crime seems to be a fiance who jumps too quickly to conclusions; Flora Ransom (Peggy Mount), a mystery writer who seems to have been a bit wild in her past; Sonny MacGregor (Peter Sellers), a popular television star who's had his hand in some shady land dealings (and I'll be darned if they weren't trying to imply a homosexual relationship); and Lord Henry Mayley (Terry-Thomas), a shady insurance solicitor. The four try individually to kill Nigel, then they team up to comedic results. This is one of those dark British comedies that they used to make a lot of in the fifties, but for some reason got pushed aside in favor of bad sex comedies. Everybody does a nicely menacing job, and all the actors stand out. The interplay between Flora and her daughter (Joan Sims) is especially nice, as are the many characters Sonny must take on throughout the movie. Peter Sellers is always best when playing dress-up. "The Naked Truth" is fun, and it's one of those movies you're glad you stayed up late for on Friday night come Saturday morning. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this under its alternate title, "Your Past is Showing." Great cast, and the villain drives an Isetta! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Offbeat British black comedy with an all star cast including a young Peter Sellers, Terry Thomas and Peggy Mount. On top of this, Joan Sims' portrayal of a panic stricken daughter is hillarious and the scenes of her and Mount trying to remove the body they think is dead are hysterically funny. One interesting element is the portrayal of those relationships that could be only suggested in a period of tighter censorship, such as Peter Sellers' TV personality and Kenneth Griffith as his dresser, whose gay relationship is faintly etched in here. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A group of well placed people are blackmailed by an unscrupulous journalist. Terry Thomas turns in a wonderful performance only matched by Peter Sellers and the unforgettable Peggy Mount. A classic British comedy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
