Christy Lemire FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is an origin story. Every superhero gets one and now horror movies get one as well, apparently. Sep 18, 2019 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times Frankly, "The Amityville Murders" feels like a missed opportunity. Feb 8, 2019 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting The Amityville Murders is technically one of the best made entries in this series, but its ending is needlessly ghoulish and exploitative. It’s shameful. Rated: 2/5 Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Dolores Quintana Dolores Quintana THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS tries really hard and perhaps that is the real problem. It feels like a movie that was made to try and cover all the bases rather than a movie that was made to tell a story. Dec 28, 2022 Full Review Gena Radcliffe The Spool Rather than a script, it uses a 'Haunted House Movie 101' checklist. Jan 18, 2020 Full Review Mike Vanderbilt Daily Grindhouse There are some groovy '70s costumes on display and features cool garage rock... THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS winds up another lackluster entry in the franchise. Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Dianna C how can I write a review when I can't even WATCH the movie???? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Chris J The Amityville Murders - Not Rated (1h 37m) 2018 - Horror 1.5/5 stars So after "Mt. Misery Road" pretty much anything was going to be a step in the right direction. "The Amityville Murders" is a remake of 1982s "Amityville II: The Possession" which is a prequel to the original film. The Possession also happens to be my favorite film in the series so far. So needless to say I was pretty excited at the idea of a modern remake. Thats about where my excitement ended. This film clearly had a larger budget than most of the others but that budget didn't really help a lot. The actors in the film were for the most part more professional than in most if the "sequels" and the camera and cinematography was definitely more on par with a bigger budget film. The unfortunate part is that the story was a mess, trying to capitalize on the "true events" of the DeFeo murders but then throwing in all sorts of supernatural aspects that just made things even more confusing. The end of the film (and this isn't sarcasm) was the best part. It was a well done look at the murders and a flash forward to the original film. I wish that more of the budget was spent on sets, seeing the Amityville windows well done was a nice bonus but there were so many scenes that could've easily and cheaply been done with real sets that were instead done with iffy CGI. I was excited to see the "High Hopes" sign again! So I just started "Amityville Island" another (and hopefully the last ever Polonia Brothers Amityville film!) Thus far I haven't seen a single shark, nor any water. For having a shark on the front cover, you'd think they'd be a little more of the focus. #theamityvillemurders #amityville24 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/25/21 Full Review robert p What a horrible film this is capitalizing on the Amityville Horrors movies. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review hayden m Poor CGI used throughout. Confusing storyline. Great real life story ruined in this film Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This guy should stop trying to do Amityville. Nothing novel to his approach. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It was only a 98 minute movie but still seemed to drag on 15-20 minutes too long. Kinda melodramatic. If you like the original or it's sequel, or even the 2004 remake, then there is no reason to watch this. 2 of 5 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
