Critics Consensus

A grim, gritty, and gripping super-noir, The Batman ranks among the Dark Knight's bleakest -- and most thrillingly ambitious -- live-action outings.

Audience Says

It's long, but The Batman looks and sounds great, and its grounded take on Gotham is a solid fit for this Caped Crusader.

The film creates an alluring combination of the familiar and the fresh. Go to Full Review

“The Batman” reaches for an ingenious and compelling new way to tell a story about the thin lines between corruption, greed and nobility — but ever so limply and always just out of its grasp. Go to Full Review

The film I imagine Ricky Fitts would grow up to make after the events of 'American Beauty.' Go to Full Review

Still, the premise is solidly seedy. Imagine a sleuthing mash-up of Seven and Silence of the Lambs transposed to Gotham City. Go to Full Review

Zachary M Oct 6 Insane that we have to wait 2 more years for the sequel. See more Raven May 7 Wayyyy tooo long and it was boring See more Joseph May 5 I don’t care what anyone says, Best Batman movie of all time! I love the dark Knight, but I feel like the Joker is who carries the movie whereas this is a full Batman movie that that’s incredible See more Al the chill movie guy May 1 The should have casted Christian Bale. Now that we got that out the way, The Batman delivers a brooding, detective-driven take on the iconic character that feels fresh and grounded. Robert Pattinson brings a raw intensity to the role, and the film’s noir style, haunting score, and moody visuals create a gripping atmosphere. The Riddler is a chilling villain, and the supporting cast shines. It’s a bit long, but every minute adds depth to Gotham’s dark world. A bold and impressive reinvention of the Batman mythos.
