Audience Member It's a little fun, some nice camp, and the characters are interesting. It's a bit too long though, and it gets really slow at points. But the last 30 minutes leads to some good material, but it's not the most enjoyable classic foreign vampire flick out there. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member An obscure vampire movie with some violence that is pretty graphic for the time. A family of vampire hunters just so happen to be living next to their most dreaded enemy for some time, without knowing it. The daughter of the family, a young, beautiful woman, decides to infiltrate the evil Count Frankenhausen's (a name crossing between Count Dracula and Frankenstein, how scary) castle. We find that the count has a young wife, whom he torments and the young vampire hunter's daughter's fiance seems all too jolly about all of the horrifying situations that surround him. He tells someone that the count seems "kind", even though he is obviously a villain. Anyways, the countess recruits the young couple to help her. Overall, this movie is alright. It certainly has novelty. The movie doesn't really have much of an ending. I credit this to the movie's long length, around two hours. They probably just ran out of money and film. If you like old scary movies that are a bit cheesy, but still have some serious content, "The Bloody Vampire" is worth checking out. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member One of many low budget horror movies that came out of Mexico in the 60s, despite some effective atmospheric shots. "Bloody Vampire" is a bloody bore. The plot is paint by numbers- suave vampire wants to sink his fangs into the hero's big-bosomed girlfriend and make her one of the undead, hero happens to be a doctor studying vampirism enlists the aid of colleagues to save her. The script is talky, the film is dull and overlong- slow motion shots of a carriage journeying to the vampire's castle are used either as a naive attempt to create tension, but more likely to help pad out the running time (at 1 hour and 50 minutes why bother?). Still there is an amusing scene in which the Count morphs into one of the most unconvincing bats in movie history- a rubber/papier mache hackjob any self-respecting novelty shope would be ashamed to stock. But a couple of minutes of amusement doesn't make this worth the effort. Only seek it out if, like me, you're a die hard horror fan who MUST see every movie he comes across, no matter how inept. D grade all the way- makes one pine for Al Adamson. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
