Bruce M I SEEN THE MOVIE AT THE RIVIARA THEATRE WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT. VERY GOOD! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the first vietnam films and one of the very best, criminally overlooked in 1978. First saw it in 1980 when I was 14 and it made a big impact on me for the well acted depth of the characters and forthright direction. Just saw a couple of clips on youtube and they are still very good. Should be seen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member the original full metal jacket Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member The original Full Metal Jacket. Also based on a true story. Very realistic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It's baffling to me that this magnificently made film, full of both humor and emotional depth, is not well known as one of the greatest films on the subject of war and what it does to its participants. Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times I think the movie is, first and best, a thrilling entertainment that starts by being funny and ends by being very deeply moving. But I also think it reflects an attitude about Vietnam that wouldn't have been possible in a war movie of the early 1940s. Rated: 4/4 Jun 15, 2018 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) Sidney J. Furie has opted for a combination of sentimentalism with cynicism and the elements are like oil and vinegar: never flirting and they drag along the film until an ending taken straight from the finale of M.A.S.H. [Full review in Spanish] Jan 25, 2024 Full Review Bernard Drew Gannett News Service The movie isn't really terrible, it just seems to be inspired by other movies about other wars.
