      The Canyons

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Oppressively misanthropic and ineptly made, The Canyons serves as a sour footnote in Paul Schrader's career -- but it does feature some decent late-period work from Lindsay Lohan.

esteban m Espantosa. Mal actuada (aunque Lindsay es la única que está relativamente bien) y con una historia aburridísima, de triángulos amorosos de manual. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/24 Full Review Jon L Lindsay Lohan was phenomenal in this Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Kevin P We need to be able to rate with negative stars on this one. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review John A Slightly amateurish on a few levels but more watchable than the hype against it implies. Lohan should take acting more seriously. She is certainly the best performer here. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/23 Full Review Pyrexis This movie was physically painful to watch. Terrible acting on all fronts and a confusing plot. Huge disappointment from the man who wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/06/23 Full Review david f I was expecting much more from this film, with a great writer and director involved. It had a somewhat smarmy charm set in Los Angeles but I just couldn't be convinced to care. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jason Bailey Flavorwire Bret Easton Ellis's screenplay is filled with the worst kind of tin-eared dialogue and situations that seldom rise above their soapish base instincts, and in the third act, he clearly just gives up and turns one of his characters into Patrick Bateman. Jun 19, 2016 Full Review Kate Muir Times (UK) With the pungent combination of a script from novelist Bret Easton Ellis, a performance by Lindsay Lohan and direction by Paul Schrader, The Canyons might have been a micro-budget sensation, but sadly it reeks of laziness. Rated: 2/5 Sep 23, 2014 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Merely confirms Schrader as an all-but spent force (it's been largely downhill since the dismal Dominion) and nails Bret Easton Ellis as a one-trick pony. Rated: 1/5 May 11, 2014 Full Review Jason Adams My New Plaid Pants Flat and imbecilic, The Canyons is a chore in every sense Jul 6, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com While Deen may very well grow into a genuine actor, he's not there yet. Rated: 2.0/4.0 Sep 4, 2020 Full Review Stephen O'Nion One Room With A View A movie decrying movies, funded and released online, shot and acted like reality TV - maybe its existence says more than its dialogue, but that doesn't make it any more engaging.
