Allen Almachar The MacGuffin It's one of those movies where you can sit back and enjoy the scenes of quiet character development just as much as you can enjoy the scenes with suspense-filled terror. Rated: B+ Jul 31, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Possessed of a beautiful (though poorly volume-mixed) score and a core concept peppered with originality, but suffers the pitfalls experience by almost any low budget film: Low quality acting, special effects & technical aspects. Though on the acting front, I will admit that all of the surviving characters are played better and better as the film goes on, indicating that the scenes were probably shot more or less in order, and as the shoot progressed, so too did the novice actors' comfort with the piece. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review william s Interesting story that's budget badly takes away from.If reworked with a bigger budget there might be something.Has a C movie Near Dark feel. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting how this film is part categorised under romance as there's nothing vaguely loving about it at all, other than a young couple who are struggling with depression and on the edge of a break-up. It actually centres around horror given it's vampire themed concept, that sees a small group of misfits trapped within an isolated ranch house with only each other and a blood thirsty doctor for company. As night falls, and they become surrounded by more razor toothed demons desperate for a bite of their necks, they must seek help from the good doctor himself in return that they protect him from the 'Van Helsing' types during daylight hours. As tempers fray and emotions run high, their loyalty is tested as we approach the climax, which to be fair wasn't all that predictable. The action is a little low and the characters are pretty basic but the fact that the film is not centred around a single hero or heroine keeps us guessing who will survive until the very end. I've never been a huge fan of vampire movies, and albeit watchable, this hasn't done anything to change my stance. It's credible considering its low budget amenities but not greatly repeatable. It almost feels like it stars the cast of 'Home and Away' as they attempt to further their careers into the movies, although having said that I have been known to succumb to many Australian soaps in years gone by. Not this time though, it holds back on the gore, and there's very little suspense to really create a fear factor here, meaning it's watchable but nowhere near edge of the seat stuff. Give me Prisoner Cell Block H any day! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member absolutely horrible slow and bad acting horrible plot too Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A fairly original take on the vampire genre. When a flu-like epidemic - which is actually the beginning stages of vampirism - starts sweeping across Australia a bunch of survivors hole up in a farmhouse together. When they discover a vampire has already taken up residence he makes a deal with them that if he protects them from his kind at night they protect him from their kind during the day. The group starts to fall apart during the daylight hours as agendas are hatched and tensions begin to rise proving that a sleeping vampire are the least of their worries. Despite the film being on the lower side, budgetarily speaking, the filmakers make good use of effects in the vampire/gore scenes which are realistically portrayed. Underneath all the blood and fangs however at its centre The Caretaker is a tale of human survival and the inevitable problems that arise when trust and loyalty are put to the test and jealously clouds the judgement. A welcome deviation from the usual. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
