Many years ago, Andrei Simoniovich Filipov (Alekseï Guskov) was fired as conductor of the Bolshoi Orchestra for hiring Jewish musicians. Now a janitor, he learns that members of the orchestra have been invited to perform in Paris. Andrei gathers his former players and plans to substitute them for the current ones, and he hopes that a beautiful virtuoso (Dmitriy Nazarov) will accompany them.

Another masterpiece by Mihaileanu. "Le concert" starts as a comedy but later it progressively changes the tone to become a dramatic film, sad and heart-warming. All served with great acting and excellent music.

This Franco-Russian jewel is a very weird combination of extremely funny and ridiculous scenes with absorbingly emotive moments. Melanie Laurent is magisterial (with only a few minutes on screen). One of my favorite movies of all time.

Synopsis
