Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Irving Rapper's screen version of Emlyn Williams semi-autobiographical play is well acted by Bette Davis as the spinster-teacher, but is too theatrical, sentimental and conventional. Murty C "The Corn Is Green" (1945) is wonderful little movie about how a spirited lady (Bette Davis) brings education to a Welsh mining village. Fine acting all round (a memorable performance by Bette Davis and Oscar nominated performances by a couple of young actors), taut screenplay and dialogues, and a focus on character development makes this a welcome movie on a winter's night. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/22 Full Review steve d Sweet and well acted. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Bette Davis=Great Performance. One of her best.
