Don't bother knocking, action fans: The Doorman only leads the way to an assortment of tired clichés that serve as bittersweet reminders of better films.

Leslie Felperin Guardian There's little humour or invention to leaven the deadened inertness of the script. Rated: 2/5 Jan 12, 2021 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Yippee-ki-nay. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Lifeless performances, a silly script that feels pastiche, and uninspired action and fight choreography make for one of the most maddening viewing experiences of the year. Rated: 1/5 Oct 9, 2020 Full Review DarkSkyLady DarkSkyLady Reviews The Doorman, despite star names like Ruby Rose and Jean Reno, fails to do more than limp its way through scene after excruciating scene. Sep 25, 2021 Full Review Matt Lynch In Review Online Kitamura has sacrificed much of his typical exuberance behind the camera in favor of a lot of generic coverage and janky edits that conceal most of the best action beats. Charles T Clichéd? Yes Run of the mill? Yes Formulaic? Yes Story line? Average Director? Average Cinematography? Slightly about average Acting skills? Above average Fighting skills of Rose or stunt double? Above average Story flaw detected: How did her niece know that the Ruby Rose character is her aunt in a scene where she helps her niece find Jasper the cat? Conclusion: If you're expecting a meal at a Michelin star restaurant, forget it. This is like having a quick meal at a McDonald's because you're hungry. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Marc Z This is a decent action adventure film with some redeeming qualities. The story of a "Doorman" with an extraordinary set of skills, and unusual past makes for a some good elements. Ruby Rose is decent in the lead role; however, she really doesn't carry the film like a Bruce Willis in Die Hard, or Charles Theron in Atomic Blonde. Simon Rhee did a good job coordinating the stunts and fights or short time and a low budget. Jean Reno is the strongest part of the movie. he has great screen presence. The problem with the film is not that it is a low budget action film, but that it looks like one too often throughout. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Test T I'm watching this on DVD right now as I type, and I shouldn't be. The opening scene of the car ambush in the woods was great. Then, it nose dived into characterless filler which is why I got bored and started typing this review. I'm watching a family of four who I know nor care anything about making small talk and having dinner in a dimly lit New York apartment. And now, with the help of subtitles, some mean looking foreign gentlemen are threatening an elderly stroke victim in a neighbouring flat. Whatever next? I think they should all go for a nice long drive through the woods again where the movie was exciting! I'm loosing so much interest, I'm about to switch it off and watch another DVD. Seriously, this film is chronic. Wow, that layer change pause was exciting. That's it - I'm done, show me The Door Man! Another 20p wasted. I'll take it back to the charity shop next time I'm in town. Review over. Definitely not recommended. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Philip L I actually enjoyed this film. I like Ruby Rose as a presence and think she brings a certain visual esthetic to her roles. The movie entertained me thoroughly. I thought it was mostly fun with some heart added in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Dick C It's a wonderful film, The Doorman, 2020...by a Japanese film director, Ryuhei Kitamura 北村龍平...with an actress, Ruby Rose and a Norwegian actor, Aksel Hennie... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review All Things F What could have been a decent action/thriller was ruined by a slew of coincidences throughout the film. Several times the bad guys suddenly appear just a few feet away from victims trying to escape. Which would have to require magical teleportation powers to pull off. It felt as if the movie was being rewritten as it was being filmed to make up for flaws in the script. Too bad. It had potential. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/29/23 Full Review Read all reviews
