Test T I'm watching this on DVD right now as I type, and I shouldn't be. The opening scene of the car ambush in the woods was great. Then, it nose dived into characterless filler which is why I got bored and started typing this review. I'm watching a family of four who I know nor care anything about making small talk and having dinner in a dimly lit New York apartment. And now, with the help of subtitles, some mean looking foreign gentlemen are threatening an elderly stroke victim in a neighbouring flat. Whatever next? I think they should all go for a nice long drive through the woods again where the movie was exciting! I'm loosing so much interest, I'm about to switch it off and watch another DVD. Seriously, this film is chronic. Wow, that layer change pause was exciting. That's it - I'm done, show me The Door Man! Another 20p wasted. I'll take it back to the charity shop next time I'm in town. Review over. Definitely not recommended. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Philip L I actually enjoyed this film. I like Ruby Rose as a presence and think she brings a certain visual esthetic to her roles. The movie entertained me thoroughly. I thought it was mostly fun with some heart added in. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Dick C It's a wonderful film, The Doorman, 2020...by a Japanese film director, Ryuhei Kitamura 北村龍平...with an actress, Ruby Rose and a Norwegian actor, Aksel Hennie... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review All Things F What could have been a decent action/thriller was ruined by a slew of coincidences throughout the film. Several times the bad guys suddenly appear just a few feet away from victims trying to escape. Which would have to require magical teleportation powers to pull off. It felt as if the movie was being rewritten as it was being filmed to make up for flaws in the script. Too bad. It had potential. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/29/23 Full Review Philip L The Doorman was a fun entertaining movie and that's what I want from entertainment. Ruby Rose was believable and the action was very well done. I'm not sure why this movie isn't getting more respect. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/10/23 Full Review Brian S Boring and quite uninteresting with lack luster action and quire a stupid plot and a waste of a good 90 minutes but well it is over now. Leslie Felperin Guardian There's little humour or invention to leaven the deadened inertness of the script. Rated: 2/5 Jan 12, 2021 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Yippee-ki-nay. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Meagan Navarro Bloody Disgusting Lifeless performances, a silly script that feels pastiche, and uninspired action and fight choreography make for one of the most maddening viewing experiences of the year. Sep 25, 2021 Full Review Matt Lynch In Review Online Kitamura has sacrificed much of his typical exuberance behind the camera in favor of a lot of generic coverage and janky edits that conceal most of the best action beats.
