James Plath Family Home Theater It's about as original as two kids meeting on summer vacation and finding adventure together. But The Dragon Pearl has solid enough execution to make it enjoyable anyway. Rated: B- Mar 30, 2016 Full Review Renee Schonfeld Common Sense Media Family-friendly adventure full of magic and battles. Rated: 3/5 Jul 2, 2013 Full Review Victoria Luxford The National (UAE) China's landscapes and a strong cast elevate the cheap-looking CGI. Rated: 3/5 Aug 30, 2012 Full Review Simon Foster sbs.com.au Though it never quite amounts to the classic kids' adventure it aspires to be, Mario Andreacchio's The Dragon Pearl is a thoroughly pleasing and exceedingly well-crafted family film. richard d An admirable attempt to make a Spielberg family film. The story is straightforward and thus predictable but the exploration of a Chinese legend is still interesting enough. Biggest problem are the characters and the acting by the two child leads. They aren't given much to work with and their lack of experience shows. Sam Neil is the only decent actor and he more or less plays the same character from Jurassic Park. There is a Jackie Chan type character in a supporting role. He's fine, but no Jackie. He's mostly there for comedy and the comedy in this film is all over the place. Would have been better if they plaid it straight. But the film was bold enough to make fun of the Mummy 3. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review farah r It's not as bad as it looks but this low budget adventure is boring rather than exciting. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Clearly a low budget movie and it acts upon it. The cast can't act, the story is dull, and the effects are apparently fake. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful story and beautiful setting with so much unused potential. Disappointing. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A mixed Chinese and English Children's adventure to talk to a dragon. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Great family fun, cool dragon -- great special effects in bringing a Chinese Dragon to life!
