'The Dreadful' is worth watching for Harden’s perfidious performance alone. And whenever she’s not on-screen it’s worth the wait. Go to Full Review

This muddled medieval borefest drags down the talents of Sophie Turner and Kit Harington, but can be commended for one thing: truth in advertising. It’s dreadful to the max. Go to Full Review

The Dreadful faintly tugs at one strand of an interesting idea in this deeply silly horror fable: the hard fact of hunger. Go to Full Review

Unfocused and underdeveloped, The Dreadful presents a dreamlike vision of historical horror without delving deeply into what makes for an immersive horror experience. Go to Full Review

Dripping with gothic ambiance and an eerie, foreboding tone, "The Dreadful" ultimately falls victim to an uneven, tedious plot. Go to Full Review

A quasi-remake of a much better Japanese horror film strips its source material of any complexity, idiosyncrasy and nuance. Go to Full Review

Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life 5d I love the characters and performances. The story was entertaining but confusing at times. The ending was a bit of a let down. Tim Treakle See more Joey M. @Joeym821 May 10 I was amped up to see Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner. While it was good to see them, the movie itself is exactly what the title states. The plot while it seemed like it was building up, was just boring. I wouldn’t recommend this movie. See more David G @DavidGonzo May 10 What the heck kind of ending was this? Where's the payoff? I thought The Dreadful was good until the ending. I wished the movie had said what that knight's mask was all about--where it came from and what was its significance. You're left to guess for yourself. I was drawn into watching this movie because of the presence of Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner, They were both in The Game of Thrones and seeing them together brought me back to that (except for season 8). I followed this movie closely and was waiting for a killer ending. I was deeply disappointed. If not for the ending, I would have given The Dreadful a 3 & 1/2 star rating instead of my 1 & 1/2 stars. See more R. B. @R1313R May 5 An appropriate name for this movie, as the situation the MCs were in was pretty dreadful. The acting was really good, but this was definitely a slow burn, atmospheric, suspenseful type of movie. If you go in hoping for jumpscares, lots of gore and what horror tropes Hollywood usually puts in period pieces, this is not the movie for you. I liked the ending especially how it didn't end quite the way I expected it to. I did get a bit bored while watching BECAUSE its a slow burn, so I ended up playing on my phone while I watched, but it had enough happenings of interest to keep me watching while I was gaming. 4/10 See more Lovell T @Lovell May 1 The metaphor of survival, greed and violence is somewhat muffled when element of the supernatural is thrown in this gorgeous looking medieval folk thriller. However, the viceral visual style of director Natasha Kermani and strong character performances continued here, right after Abraham's Boys. Coupled with beautiful color palettes and grandiose nature expanse, The Dreadful, contrary to the title, is a sight to behold. See more Hal W. @Halby555 Apr 29 Great acting, great cast, and great plot wanders and is thin, some gross eating scenes. Slurping and drooling. Atmospheric darkness See more Read all reviews
