Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Belgian director Amélie van Elmbt's lovely trifle The Elephant and the Butterfly is as sweet and gentle -- and at times simplistic -- as its storybook title may imply. Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety It says something about the film that it's impossible to watch without imagining the even moister American remake. Apr 30, 2018 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The film benefits greatly from the adorable yet equally gifted Doillon. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 7, 2020 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film Beautifully shot and lit in a way that brings out all the richness of detail Elsa sees in the world, this is a beautiful piece of filmmaking. It's gentle, leisurely and likely to melt the hardest of hearts. Rated: 4.5/5 Feb 27, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
