Maximus (Claude Rains) and his wife, Rene (Fay Wray), perform a fixed mind-reading act together. On board a train, Maximus is overcome with the sense that it will crash, but is only able to convince Christine Shawn (Jane Baxter) to get off. When the train crashes, Christine's father, a newspaper publisher, prints the story and makes Maximus famous. Unaware his skills occur only when Christine is near, he relishes his fame -- until his prediction of a mining tunnel collapse goes tragically wrong.
