Audience Member Loved it! I recently listened to a podcast interview with a Vietnam veteran A6 bombardier. The interview was very moving. He mentioned that this movie was a mostly-accurate depiction of combat in the A6, so I was interested to see it despite poor reviews. Against that context, the film and story were fantastic. There were some storyline and dialog elements that I thought were very clever and endearing that may have escaped the attention of viewers primarily interested in the action aspect. Without the context, I would say it’s an ok movie for a slow night at home, but considering its purported accuracy, I found it very moving and engaging. I would say it’s definitely worth the time for anyone interested in military aviation history, especially that of the generally overlooked ground-attack role, and especially in the Vietnam war. As a bonus, you get to see baby-faced Willem Dafoe, Danny Glover, Rosanna Arquette, even Ving Rhames early-career! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Lucas D While some might say that, alot of the movie is cliche or a Top Gun remake; they discount how incredibly accurate the film is. This film comes closer then other movies about Vietnam and how it affected the people involved. I give it 5 stars because this movie highlights U.S. Naval Aviation and honors the sacrifice made by aviators in a realistic way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Laurie S This film conveys the idea the Vietnam war was fought by spoiled children in planes. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/10/24 Full Review Chris H Despite the flaws its an entertaining movie with some good characters. Is there anything Glover does that isn't good? Johnson and Defoe's own personalities and fame don't detract from the characters they are playing which is good Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review fawnl l Having been there at that time it was somewhat of a slap on the face to the Men aboard USS Saratoga and VA-75. It was THEY that conducted strikes and operations at the time the film was depicted. The Indy was stateside. Plenty of footage could have been used from that cruise. A7 coming aboard with hole in wing when a SAM went through it without detonating and a A6 that caught the barricade after smashing into tree tops while avoiding a SAM. Overall a fun action packed flick with some of the fun times in Olongapo. Things a sailor will never forget along with the boredom and sad lonely horrific times aboard ship.
