U.S. Navy pilot Lt. Jake Grafton (Brad Johnson) and his bombardier buddy, Lt. Cmdr. Virgil Cole (Willem Dafoe), are two soldiers embedded in the Vietnam War growing frustrated by the military's constraints on their missions. Despite the best efforts of their commanding officer, Cmdr. Frank Camparelli (Danny Glover), to re-engage them, this disillusioned pair decide to take the war effort into their own hands with an explosive battle plan that could well get them court-martialed.

While some might say that, alot of the movie is cliche or a Top Gun remake; they discount how incredibly accurate the film is. This film comes closer then other movies about Vietnam and how it affected the people involved. I give it 5 stars because this movie highlights U.S. Naval Aviation and honors the sacrifice made by aviators in a realistic way.

Despite the flaws its an entertaining movie with some good characters. Is there anything Glover does that isn't good? Johnson and Defoe's own personalities and fame don't detract from the characters they are playing which is good

Having been there at that time it was somewhat of a slap on the face to the Men aboard USS Saratoga and VA-75. It was THEY that conducted strikes and operations at the time the film was depicted. The Indy was stateside. Plenty of footage could have been used from that cruise. A7 coming aboard with hole in wing when a SAM went through it without detonating and a A6 that caught the barricade after smashing into tree tops while avoiding a SAM. Overall a fun action packed flick with some of the fun times in Olongapo. Things a sailor will never forget along with the boredom and sad lonely horrific times aboard ship.

I liked it. Sort of. Yeah, it is a mess. But I've watched it twice over the decades and found it mildly entertaining. The camera work pretty much stunk and the script could have been great but it wasn't. If Jerry B had done this it could have been a knockout but alas you didn't even need to pause it while going to the bathroom because when you came back it was still slowly grinding away.
