Toni LeBrun (Corinne Griffith) is beautiful jazz age singer who takes a job in a Paris cabaret, where she is propositioned by Henry von Glessing (Lowell Sherman), a rich patron of the club. When she refuses his advances, she is fired and joins her wardrobe mistress, Rosa (Louise Dresser), in a fancy hotel in Monte Carlo -- where Rosa reveals herself as a down-on-her-luck baroness in disguise. Posing as the daughter of the baroness, Toni pursues romance, with unexpected consequences.

08/09/2010 Pretty good. Breezy and amusing - moreso than his later films, Milestone really knew how to hold the whole picture together. It's a shame that he lost that knack. This is pretty simple fare, but told well, I think, and reasonably well acted. Milestone's direction is fairly straightforward and workmanlike, but for this type of film that's all you really need.
