Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times What emerges is a hypnotic, strangely wistful and affecting portrait. May 23, 2014 Full Review Ronnie Scheib Variety The film's emotional center rings coldly hollow, its star-crossed lovers coming off more like projected figures than flesh-and-blood players. Apr 30, 2014 Full Review Tomas Hachard NPR There's no sense that the film recognizes its own absurd elements. Apr 25, 2014 Full Review Prairie Miller NewsBlaze With far too much focus on form and feeling rather than a coherent story and character depth, the filmmaker diminishes what the meaning of cinema is all about. And opts instead for the silent imagery and still gaze more suited to the medium of fine art. May 17, 2014 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru A leisurely-paced, operative love story with well-nuanced performances. If there were any justice, it would be nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Set Design and Best Cinematography. Rated: 8.1/10 Apr 28, 2014 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International As lifeless as its heroine, whose fate is so baldly spelled out in that title, this period confection strives for high romance but achieves mere ennui. Audience Member I loved this movie! Deeply moving story about the passion of youth, the lasting connection between destiny and earthly time. I put this third in my favorite movies this year: The Grand Budipest Hotel, Birdman and The Girl and Death. If this had a Julia Roberts American star, this movie would be getting a lot more attention. That said, timelessness is poetic only in the hearts of lovers. Aliens, zombies, robots and horror geeks won't find a moment to grab here--athough it is a story locked in the ghosts of a lost path, which still has earthly intrigue to those who know its truths. The actors in this piece are all perfection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Not sure what those who seem to dislike the film say, because I thought it was great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Moody, & beautifully shot; meanwhile, lingering however. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
