Critics Consensus

Its graphic violence and sprawling length will prove too much for some viewers to take, but Noomi Rapace's gripping performance makes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo an unforgettable viewing experience.

Deborah Ross The Spectator The film is certainly faithful to every detail of the novel's intricate plot, which is fair enough, but does give it the feel of a plodding TV whodunit rather than a cinematic experience. Rated: C- Jun 30, 2010 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia A thriller that maintains a considerable amount of mystery by narrating, with pulse and intrigue, a disturbing story about men who hate women. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 May 9, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review For all its attempted strangeness, the story contains some standard mystery-thriller tropes that are all too identifiable and eye-rolling in this context. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 18, 2023 Full Review Paul Kanieski KSQD Community Radio The striking compositions by cinematographers Jens Fischer and Eric Kress are expressive and varied. Lighting ranges from naturalistic to subtly expressionistic, and different hues are used to convey both physical exteriors and interior emotions. Jul 21, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Robert A I really enjoyed this one over the American remake Lisbeth Slander is the ultimate badass. The story has a lil more depth to it that the American version which I really enjoyed Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/30/24 Full Review Mark C Had to turn off. Felt like I was watching some basic TV show Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Shaun E This original version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is thrilling, compelling and disturbing in equal measure. Having decided, for continuity's sake to watch the original Swedish versions dubbed into English I can say that I was not disappointed with this decision. There are many brutal scenes in this film and they are quite flinch provoking. I would say that if you are going to be disturbed by some of the scenes in this film then I would avoid this film at all costs. The story is well played out and well paced. It is clear what is going on most of the time and the problem solving is done in a very methodical and clear manner. For an investigative drama, this was one of the best I have seen for unfolding the mystery. Dubbing into English was excellently done - not an easy task. There are very few places where the dialogue misses the beat of the facial movement. If the story lacks anything it is hurdle - a real blocker or red herring, but that doesn't detract much from the story. I now look forward to the Girl who Played with Fire, hoping that it can deliver as much as this first instalment. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Vitezslav K This is a really good and unusually detective. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Caren S Slightly different than the Hollywood one better back story on Libeth's childhood Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/16/23 Full Review Haydn C I finally got around to watching 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. OMG! I didn't know what I have been missing this whole time. I LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT! It was a MASTERPIECE! there were so many twists and turns. Its a shame that the author died soon after writing the first book. The world lost a treasure! I'm a HUGE fan of Noomi Rapace! She is a very talented Actress!
