Danny Leigh Financial Times [A] gracefully jagged movie, made with a nod to master surrealist Luis Buñuel and a high-gloss aesthetic of fashion magazines, face masks and nail varnish. Rated: 4/5 Jul 24, 2020 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian There is enormous clarity and control in this film from Mexican director Alejandra Márquez Abella, and a tremendous lead performance from Ilse Salas. Jul 24, 2020 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It's compelling material, yet oddly toothless as polemic. Rated: 3/5 Jul 24, 2020 Full Review Matt Cipolla Film Monthly This thinly stretched premise has no bite aside from Ilse Salas' performance, just some old jewelry over its limp wrists. Rated: 2/5 Jul 25, 2020 Full Review Jim Ross TAKE ONE Magazine Impeccably made and superbly acted, the entire package is absorbing if perhaps lacking in satirical edge. Feb 13, 2020 Full Review Mirito Torreiro Fotogramas The result is a movie of unusual intelligence, well-shot and interpreted, decidedly magnificent. Michael W Excellent film filled with early 80s Mexico City energy and a timeless critique of social stratification - with people ‘above and below’, and the perils of ‘falling down’ the ladder. Based on the incomparable work of Guadalupe Loaeza, this adaptation captures the very real and human pain when expectations become disappointments, the untrustworthiness of social friendships, and ever-present configuring of gender. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Audience Member Excellent protrayal of Latin American "high-society". This is the story of many families and it won't be the last. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Great cast the three ladies are very strong. The whole cast is great! Enjoy the comédie and the suspense and it was quite addictive although season 2 had a few episodes that was dragging a bit. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Roberto A Muy buena comedia oscura (muy oscura) que relata el cambio de vida que le tocó a pequeña sección de la sociedad mexicana durante las crisis económicas de los años ochenta. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/03/19 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful camera work and a perfectly done study in useless lives dependent on money. What happens when the money is gone and the arrogance remains? Very believable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
