Critics Consensus

The Greatest Hits is built around a genuinely interesting idea, but it's lost in a shallow treatment that's too often content to rely on sentimentality.

Robert Levin Newsday A run-of-the-mill romance. Rated: 2/4 May 3, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Somber depictions of grief don’t always make for great movies. Director/screenwriter Ned Benson ekes out a decent one in this sensitive romantic triangle. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Nadira Goffe Slate If The Greatest Hits is any indication, I guess they just don’t make time-travel movies like they used to. Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It has an original premise, blending fantasy with romance and a good cast to delve into grief, loss, and moving forward, but it doesn't end up taking advantage of that freshness, falling into typical genre clichés. It is a touch predictable, but the novel approach to time travel and the performances from Boyton and Min make it worthwhile if you're willing to vibe with it. Anna M L The film is sweet, that’s all I can say. Love the actors and how the simple story line about time travel mix with drama about lost and grief. It’s sweet romantic story. They can play more with the idea of time travel but I think they just more focus on how to letting go of the past. And what meant for you meant for you. And what doesn’t meant for you doesn’t meant for you even though you tried to changed it many time Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/18/25 Full Review T F This is a very sweet film that is a great watch. Reviews had me thinking it would be lame, but I really enjoyed it. Interesting take on the time travel genre, with great performances by the cast. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review matthias s **The Greatest Hits – 2 Stars** I’m always down for a time travel flick—throw in a music-centered plot, and I’m hooked. On paper, *The Greatest Hits* should be a home run. A romantic drama with a nostalgic playlist? Sign me up. But, man… the execution? Not so great. The biggest issue? Zero chemistry between the leads. And for a romance, that’s kind of a deal-breaker. The concept itself is pretty cool, and I *wanted* to love it—but the story drags, and I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the characters. Maybe that’s on me, but it’s hard to feel invested when the central couple has all the spark of a wet match. There are some decent moments, and the music keeps things from totally falling apart, but overall, it’s more "background noise" than "greatest hit." Such a shame—this could’ve been something special. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/22/25 Full Review Michael P it's was insanely good. I'm glad I watched it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Jeremy M "The Greatest Hits” is a rare gem that transcends the traditional romance formula, weaving together music, time travel, and a deeply emotional narrative. This film offers a refreshing and poignant exploration of love, heartache, and the weight of life-altering decisions. At its core, “The Greatest Hits” is about the universal struggle to reconcile ambition with love and the bittersweet realization that some choices, no matter how painful, are necessary. What sets “The Greatest Hits” apart is its ability to balance its fantastical premise with raw, relatable emotions. The time-travel element is handled with elegance, avoiding overcomplication and instead serving as a poignant metaphor for reflection and growth. “The Greatest Hits” is a must-watch for anyone who’s ever wondered about the roads not taken. It’s a soulful, beautifully crafted story that reminds us of the power of music, love, and the choices that define us. A modern classic in the making.
