      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Greatest Hits is built around a genuinely interesting idea, but it's lost in a shallow treatment that's too often content to rely on sentimentality.

Esteban C music can literally transport you to places and bring people back! this story proved the power it can have when love is at stake. gutting and sad, beautiful and eclectic! going from present to past, from reality to imagination, playing with two storylines in quite a way. incredible actors, a nice story to watch and definitely a great soundtrack to accompany all of us through the grief and joy of harriet’s life, showing what was, could have been and would eventually be!!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/24 Full Review Stephen A Not what I was expecting at all. Pleasantly surprised Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review lollerskates f pro: Great idea that went nowhere. The music/audio/mixing is actually good, mostly. cons: The writing is so shallow and every scene is forced. The superficiality, lighting, dialogue, and even the blocking frustrated me; I cringed when David knocks over the chairs and they have that forced exchange. That and David is so pretentious, patronizing, and self-centered which just makes me dislike the character more especially since what's her name keeps trying to win his approval because he's mad at her for processing her grief for like 30 WHOLE MINUTES. ultimately it made a cool concept boring Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Brendan L (3.25 STARS)
First, I watched specifically for David Corenswet (STAYED FOR LUCY BOYNTON) because I have never seen him in something before (and Superman duh) and he alone was a wonderful addition to this movie (only having been in it for 5 mins max). Second, it reminded me of Anyone But You but with more music and less comedy. Third, I really enjoyed the way that this film was shot because it had some really cool visual moments to go along with the, expectedly, great sound editing/editing in general. The base concept was super interesting with a wonderful dilemma including rightfully increasing stakes but not without romance film cliches and the fact that what occurs in this film (Harriet’s condition) simply could never actually happen to drag it down. Lastly, I enjoyed the ending because she was able to pursue what she wanted to happily while still finding what life meant for her. it was an enjoyable watch especially if you’re either (1) a music fan and or (2) a romance film fan. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Landen B Rom-com time traveling movie. Want expecting much from it but it worked and is was enjoyable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Yash B "The Greatest Hits" was touching and inventive, which is exactly the type of movie I feel like I needed. I think the concept here is done in an original way and the characters are easy to love. I found myself enjoying the soundtrack and seeing how it was implemented in the story. I do feel some aspects could have been fleshed out even more and the movie actually could have been even longer and more in-depth. Nonetheless, what is presented is a very honest and heartfelt story about grief and moving on. Overall, I think it is one of the more original films of this year so far, and it left me feeling a variety of emotions and mostly impressed. James Berardinelli ReelViews Although it’s a brave move to use structural elements of Slaughterhouse Five as the foundation of a rom-com, Benson’s reach exceeds his grasp. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 25, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News Somber depictions of grief don’t always make for great movies. Director/screenwriter Ned Benson ekes out a decent one in this sensitive romantic triangle. Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 17, 2024 Full Review Lyvie Scott Inverse Benson’s high-concept love story might be unique, but it’s not reinventing the wheel. That’s as much a virtue as it can be a vice, as The Greatest Hits is sampling the classics whenever it can. Apr 16, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider The Greatest Hits has its moments, but is in need of a remix. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review Petr Navovy Pajiba Unfortunately, the film -- while serviceably acted -- lacks any sense of fun or inspiration, refusing or unable to expand on its premise in a way that would justify being a feature film rather than a ten or fifteen-minute short. Apr 23, 2024 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...an intriguing premise that’s employed to somewhat erratic yet mostly engrossing effect...
