Marissa Martinelli Slate The movie is comfort food through and through, as wholesome and predictable as a Sunday roast and as sickly sweet as sticky toffee pudding. Aug 10, 2018 Full Review Matt Fagerholm RogerEbert.com Though the subject matter could've been developed into a more challenging and provocative yarn, this film's chief aim is escapism. Emma B Some of the most loveable array of characters I've seen in a film. Each conversation felt natural and smooth and real. The main character has an absolute heart of gold so you can't go wrong. The writing is truly beautiful and tells this story in such a heart string tugging manner. Had to show this to as many friends and family that I could get to watch it. Shows the emotional sides of a tragic time in history. So many laughs, cries, and tears of joy came along with this film. No to mention the beautiful camera work and acting. Highly recommend you at least watch it on e and then until you can't take it anymore! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/25/24 Full Review Torin F THE GUERNSEY LITERARY ~ SOCIETY has an interesting historical basis in the German occupation of the island during WWII, though the film itself mostly steers for the safe, sentimental waters of a typical romantic drama that's thoroughly pleasant and a little prim. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Sriram G Fantastic movie with equal touch of family, romance and friendship throughout the whole and has perfect music which fits with the beautiful scenery of Guernsey. Acting is top notch as well and I'll have to say this made my fav movies of all time list. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/24 Full Review Timothy D Old fashioned but immensely charming, this film warms the soul. Its approach is far from unique, but it's sweet effect is familiar in the best way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Annie L This could have been much better if the filmmakers hadn't pushed the reality of so many of the situations into the realm of fairytales. It's like they didn't trust the story to be strong enough without exaggerating all the elements. And they also showed a lack of imagination and trust in the casting. Lily James was not all that different from her character in Yesterday. And the two Downton Abbey actors played nearly identical roles in this movie. I'm sure lots of people love this kind of feel good movie. I also like a movie with a positive mess and a happy ending, but I think it's so much more powerful when it feels believable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/24 Full Review Jeff This is a great and touching film. Chose to be a writer so I could have tea! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
