Audience Member The ditzy secrtary (Blake) of a financially struggling detective (Neal) tries to take a case of her own, and ends up framed for murder. Her boss must, once again, work a non-paying job in order to clear her name. "The Hat Box Mystery" is a simple-minded who-dunnit that fails as both a comedy and a mystery. The leads (Neal and Jenkins) are really too good for this film, which has virtually nothing to recommend it. The ONLY interesting this about the film is the way the actors intorduce themselves and their characters at the beginning of the film. It's an interesting device, and I don't think it's ever been done quite the same way before or since. The Hat Box Mystery Starring: Tom Neal, Allen Jenkins, Pamela Blake, and Leonard Penn Director: Lambert Hillyer Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
