J.R. Southall Starburst The acting and comic action are often clumsy and obvious, but Ho's film certainly has a heart and a little bit of politics too -- and should prove fascinating for fans of low-brow period cinema. Rated: 6/10 Jul 26, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This movie is weird, uncomfortable at times, and sometimes downright hostile to the viewer. For the life of me I cannot figure out the audience for this film. It's constantly pivoting back and forth between some sort of Disney-esque whimsical kids adventure (Think Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) and a raunchy adult sex comedy with nudity and attempted assault. It's so uniquely Hong Kong in how aggressive and bizarre it is, because whatever it's doing at any given time, it has to be the most. It's really a movie you could only make in Hong Kong, but it's also a very interesting look at the social and economic situation of Hong Kong in the 70's. If that interests you, then go for it, but you've got to have a lot of patience and a VERY open mind, and I don't think I can really recommend it to anyone in good conscience.
