An animated Disney adventure follows disfigured Quasimodo (Tom Hulce), the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, who bides his time locked away in a tower. With only gargoyles to keep him company, Quasimodo longs to be with other people, leading to his chance encounter with the enchanting Gypsy Esmeralda (Demi Moore). The Hunchback of Notre Dame is simply one of Disney's greatest masterpieces; however, due to the dark themes it tackles, it is unfortunately often overshadowed by other major films of that era such as The Lion King or Mulan, but once you watch and analyze it in depth, you realize what a marvelous film it truly is. It is a film that directly criticizes religious fanaticism and racism while conveying a message of hope; the cast of characters is charming, and the music and songs capture the quintessential Disney style found in other films of the Renaissance era. The climax is incredible, and Frollo is a brilliant villain who embodies everything one could want in such a role. The movie does not disappoint everything it offers is more than satisfying, and it has aged remarkably well.

The film strikes an incredibly dark tone for a children's production. For me, the highlight of the experience was the ending, featuring absolutely beautiful animation.

Overall, I would recommend this movie, and for its target demographic this movie is a must watch. However, there's just a few things parents should be aware of before showing this to their kids. This is one of the only Animated Disney movies that I can think of that have some themes of lust or sexual desire. It may not be so obvious to kids considering the way its handled, but it still exists and is worth considering before viewing together as a family.
