剧情直白却不简洁，创作者似乎轻视了儿童观众的理解能力。其实影片中大量的解释说明性段落都可以继续精简以至于删去，而达芬奇与国王姐姐的互动可以展现得更详细一点。动画表现形式上则稍有投机取巧之嫌，人偶的五官被高度简化，而对表现力要求较高的段落更是直接诉诸绘制。定格动画制作不易，最终效果平平令人遗憾。

I took my two kids aged 6 and 7 to watch this move. It was DULL, the voices and accents were NOT clear the majority of the time. The storyline had no flow whatsoever it seemed to dart all over the place. People in the cinema with kids were all leaving half way through the movie. We only stayed as we paid a small fortune on the tickets, I feel like I have been "ripped off". This movie should be rated 15 not a PG. If you have kids under 15 don't bother watching this! If fact miss it altogether! It was 90 minutes of our lives we won't ever get back!
