Audience Member Very intriguing movie. Leaves you with a lot of questions not answered but still gets you invested in this world. If I had one complaint it would be for more answers as to who the mother was and what did she die from and why the boy could do what he could do. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member I really enjoyed this rather strange, beautiful, moody movie about a boy making a journey from his mother's home, through a post-apocalyptic world very close to our own world, to find the place where wishes come true. While the ever-threatening antagonist, the "wind" that kills people, is never fully explained (is it alien? supernatural? created by scientists? from another dimension?) I don't think that omission really matters; instead, the whole movie preserves the air of mystery. I quite liked that - when most movies these days explain things laboriously - and I really liked the idea that underlies the whole movie, that magic and quantum physics meet at a certain point, and for a movie that is fantasy, like a fairy tale in many ways, the fact that technology and science are integral to the movie's plot is really interesting and probably new. The acting is marvellous from Flynn Allen who plays Sira, the little boy and Matilda Freeman who plays Lilly, the little girl. Luke Goss is great too as the soldier, in fact, the acting is brilliant from all the cast. The movie is a character driven quest and highlights the moral conflicts of the main characters really really well. The ending seemed perfectly comprehensible to me - the boy had to make a choice, and the choice he makes was unexpected. The script is well-written and the cinematography beautiful; everything is slightly understated in that particularly English way. My only slight disappointment was in encountering the cliche of the corrupt Christian cliqueish sex-cult, which is becoming rather overdone these days, although that is balanced perhaps for once by the good soldier being a Christian as well. The Last Boy is probably not everybody's cup of tea, nonetheless it is gripping and entertaining the whole way through. I recommend it to fans of fantasy and sci-fi who would like something thought-provoking in the low-budget sci-fi category to watch. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review ian b Always on the verge of enjoying this film but never had any real understanding of the final scene. The boy was I an emotional vacume. Lily was endearing but generally it left me with to many questions. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review santa s Based on an interesting premise ! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Like waiting a long, long, long time for a dessert out of the oven, and when it arrives, it tastes like an old smelly sock. Thankfully, it was not pornographic and fairly well acted, but the ending is confusing, illogical (they should know what is real and not real), and obviously needs a follow-up movie to finish the thought. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring. Don't waste your time. Movie started promising, but turned out to be very boring. Nothing really happens, no explanations given, ending anticlimactic, plot has no many holes it can be used as a spaghettis strainer. Music. Loud dramatic music playing during entire movie trying to create cense of drama where there is no drama. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
