Odie Henderson Boston Globe But the story has no relevance, Yuri (Helena Zengel), the hero, has zero personality, and the puppet-based titular creatures she’s trying to save are some of the dullest creations I’ve seen in ages. Rated: 1.5/4 May 4, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “The Legend of Ochi” is a gentle fable that imagines people being able to realize there is a better way of being and living in harmony together. It’s certain to warm the heart and tug at it too. Rated: 3/4 May 2, 2025 Full Review Keith Phipps The Reveal (Substack) "It’s just a shame the film’s storytelling is never as assured as Saxon’s other creative choices." Rated: 2.5/5 May 2, 2025 Full Review Padaí Ó Maolchalann In Review Online The Legend of Ochi becomes a distinctly deflating watch, opening as it does with such promise, then offering no new sustenance for the audience’s attention as it moves through its narrative. May 3, 2025 Full Review Eileen Jones The Jacobin The Legend of Ochi is paced a bit ploddingly and without many surprises...But the details of its Carpathian neverland are delightfully different from what we’re used to seeing, and the actors all give excellent performances... May 2, 2025 Full Review Katie Hogan FILMHOUNDS Magazine The Legend of Ochi may be a film that slips by most, but those looking for or longing for an unusual adventure will find the film delightful, on the whole. laura b Theres an hour forty of my life Ill ever get back save your money on this one . Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Glupt I liked the acting overall. The puppetry was awesome, the main reason I saw this movie. I want more puppets! Loved the noises the creatures made. My wife and I felt like this would have been better as a series because it has a lot of potential, but to tell all of this in an 1H30m movie well is difficult, in my opinion. Willem Dafoe was hilarious, but I feel like I needed more context. Something felt like it was missing. The CGI was not good on screen, either, especially the water scenes. I did like it overall, but it's not something I would recommend to my friends, sadly. But what I got from this was: the universe has potential and I hope it makes room for more puppeteers! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review anonymous Wait til it comes out on streaming. It was slow to developing, didn’t really care about the characters. The dialog was poor. The story was weird. The only good part was the baby ochi. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review carey Sooooooo bad. Like my kids wanted to leave out of extreme boredom bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Wayfaring Stranger Odd, pleasantly slow, beautifully shot, amazing setting, immersive, interesting soundtrack. Meatheads and vapid Barbies wont like it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Veronica What was that? Wish I could get my 55 bucks back for myself and my kids! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
