Jim N @RT88410809 Feb 18 Every haunted and holy and haloed and hallowed alcoholic will find a sounding resonance in this sparse and distinctly European film, directed by the man who made 'The Tree of Wooden Clogs'. The focal role here is depicted by the pellucid-eyed and beguiling Rutger Hauer, whose career should have comprised superior roles than it did. This, however, is one of those superior roles. I finally tackled it though. A thought provoking movie about miracles and God's involvement in a person's life. Sadly it sometimes fell flat or felt fake. Shot in a timeless Paris the movie is magical and deals with most aspects of the human conditions: honesty, truth, childhood frienship, love, betrayal, survival, innocence and most of all hope.
