Critics Consensus

The Letters tries to honor Mother Teresa with an unstintingly positive portrayal of her life and works, but ends up smothering a fascinating real-life story under a bland hagiography.

Godfrey Cheshire RogerEbert.com A drama in which belief is reduced to well-meaning but inert treacle. Rated: 1/4 Dec 4, 2015 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom Her accomplishments are even more impressive once we learn how fiercely she wrestled with God. Rated: B Dec 4, 2015 Full Review Ken Jaworowski New York Times Struggles aren't ignored here; they're just surmounted with patience and devotion. That may be a good strategy in life, but it can be static to watch on screen. Dec 3, 2015 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens [Juliet] Stevenson plays Mother Teresa from age 35 to 70 with a believability and resonance that radiates from within. The depth of conviction and humility which she imbues in the character took my breath away... Powerful fragility at its finest. Nov 29, 2019 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy Instead, what we have here is a fair, melodramatic biopic that underwhelms when compared to what truly great work Mother Teresa accomplished. Aug 6, 2018 Full Review Richard James Havis South China Morning Post The film presents a meek and mild story which emphasises a cloying niceness, and even brings a rosy hue to the extreme suffering of the poor in India. This film makes you feel like your in the events. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was a bit of a let down. I truly believe that Mother Teresa deserves to have movies made about her, but this one seems slow and sluggish. However, I think that the worst thing about it is that it wasn't as informative as I was hoping for. It has a few good moments, but ultimately I was not impressed with it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Mother Theresa is a Saint and this film is about her devotion to Christ and her calling to Love the poor and destitute in society....it's an inspiration and a joy to watch because it's not just another Hollywood movie. 4 stars Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member interesting look at the life of Mother Theresa, but, the movie isn't terribly exciting Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Simple without fireworks but keeps plot in line Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
