Critics Consensus

This animated deep cut from The Lord of the Rings mythos has plenty of spectacle, but its clichéd characters and uneven animation resemble middle of the road more than they do Middle Earth.

Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) The War of the Rohirrim may be more enjoyable when consumed not as spin-off but rip-off – a fantasy anime epic that just so happens to share some elements (and music cues) with the Tolkien world. Even Hèra’s lady-in-waiting, Olwyn, is given more consideration than would be typical... Jan 20, 2025 Full Review Sean P. Means The Movie Cricket “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is a reminder that animation can do anything other forms of filmmaking can. Now Kamiyama needs a story that matches the grand spectacle of the format. Rated: 3/4 Jan 18, 2025 Full Review Jackie K. Michael M The fighting scenes showed the potential this could have been... sadly it is very apparent that they were rushed and pushed this out. several scenes felt unpolished and some even unfinished.
