This is a great low budget, one room, existentialist movie. It's one of those movies where you recognize every one of the actors but couldn't come up with their names if someone paid you 100 dollars. Unique plot, great acting, but like I said low low budget. I read that it was filmed in 8 days with a budget of $200,000. Highly recommend. It's one of those movies that I rewatch every year or so. I kind of wish they could remake this with a bigger budget, but I think remaking it would just tarnish this gem of a movie. Highly recommend. Spoilers and plot below. The movie revolves around a group of professors from various fields gathering to say goodbye to a fellow professor who is moving away after 10 years of teaching. Slowly it is revealed that the man moving away is doing so because he always does, because he doesn't age, because he is 14,000 years old and born during the stone age. The plot progresses through how this would be possible and what it would be like with the help of the convenient knowledge of all the professors (religion, psychology, anthropology, history etc.) There are some twists and turns and while I think they could have tightened up the editing a little overall great movie.

This was a really interesting and well acted movie that held my attention. Just long enough so as not to belabor the plot which if you're of the science fiction persuasion, will be quite enjoyable. A fun hour and a half.

It's dry and slow but rich and intriguing and deep. I often find myself coming back to this movie.Over and over again not only to watch but to think about. It lives rent free in my mind. The idea of living so long and seeing your best intentions....well perhaps I've said too much already.

Very simple movie but massively captivating. There's one location thru out the whole movie this liitle living room in a dessert house where a university professor helds farewell party for his fellow professors. The Host's life story puts a completely different perspective on world perception, not only for his guest but potentially the whole world. Spoiler alert he's not an alien

I've watched this countless times over the years and have shown it to friends and colleagues alike, I honestly think it's one of the best movies ever made. The idea behind it, the way its written and directed, the way its shot, its so believable, the nuances and history and theology at play, it makes it seem as though this situation could happen, or has happened. It's a truly great piece of work and I've watched it at least twenty times. It's just, my favorite movie of all time.
