Critics Consensus

The Man From Toronto has a crackerjack premise and a fine pair of stars, but this toothless comedy mismatches its promising elements and winds up neither funny or thrilling.

Audience Says

It looks great on paper, but The Man from Toronto does the bare minimum with its action-heavy story and appealingly mismatched stars.

Although Hart, as the broadly comic version of the classic Hitchcockian Wrong Man, has a certain goofball charm, his frantic coward routine gets old quickly, with no appreciable change as the action-flick danger continues to escalate. Go to Full Review

Hart is something of a stocky comic iron man, a scrappy pro with the ability to twist and bend even the lousiest dialogue into a pretzel shape that can make you laugh despite yourself. Afterward, you may be laughing more at yourself than anything. Go to Full Review

Harrelson is as effective a foil here as he is a credible Canadian, which is to say, not at all. Go to Full Review

It was a Kevin Hart show throughout; he aces the comedy as usual. Woody Harrelson was nothing short of a surprise in this comedy venture, and it was a delight to watch him. Go to Full Review

The Man from Toronto is a largely unimpressive bore, even if Hart and Harrelson try to keep their chemistry as engaging as possible. Go to Full Review

It has its moments, but not enough of them to make up for the overwhelming feeling that we’ve seen all of this before. Go to Full Review

(ENGLISH) There are films that are as easy to watch as they are to forget, and this is one of them. The mix of action and comedy works at times, mainly because Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson manage to spark some energy from their odd pairing, even if the chemistry never quite reaches its full potential. The humor is uneven, with some jokes landing well and others feeling forced. The plot moves between well-worn genre clichés and predictable chases, without bringing anything new. What’s left is a string of scenes that barely meet the minimum to entertain, but rarely surprise. Patrick Hughes’ direction keeps things moving, though everything feels routine. There are a few amusing action moments and the occasional effective gag, but the film lacks personality. What could have been a “buddy movie” with character ends up as a recycled formula. In the end, it’s a light action comedy, perfect for a couch night without high expectations. It’s watchable, with a couple of redeeming laughs, and it doesn’t bore, but it never stands out. An entertaining film, nothing more, and one that fades from memory as quickly as it arrives. See more Sean M Jun 19 It's good humor, i just find K. Hart to be a little cheesy. Bumped it to Three Stars for the ending fight scene.
