Chad F This is a fairly well made film documenting the tragic real event of the Marchioness sinking on the Thames. It definitely conveys the sense of urgency of the actual sinking and the chaos surrounding the rescue of those who made it off the boat and struggling to survive in the river. I don't think the movie did a great job establishing the characters--you get a few short bits introducing half a dozen or so people but not enough time is spent with them to engage the viewer with their storylines. When the disaster occurs, it is hard to tell where most of them are or what is happening to them. As for the rest of the unfortunate passengers they are pretty much all extras in the background. They show up, are seen partying down, then are dunked in the water or are never seen again once the Marchioness goes down. The movie did do a good job covering the scandalous handling of the victims and what the relatives of the deceased went through though. Overall, it is a well made movie--nicely shot, pretty decent effects, decent acting from most performers, good capsule of 80's music that was popular at the time, it's just too bad that not enough time was spent with the characters before the accident so the viewer could develop interest in their survival. I've seen better disaster recreations, but I've also seen a LOT of worse ones. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
