Marie S. If you love the peripheral history of WWII, this is for you. I learned a lot about what went on with the beautiful artwork, and the actors and side narratives were unimportant. It feels like multiple completely different stories. Damons side plot with Blanchett feels like a completely seperate film. Than it starts dividing the group up into differnt duos and it feels like stuff just happens bouncing around between them. To it's credit it does start to finally stop that towards the end in the last 30 minutes or so but it's a slog to get there. Everything else is ok enough. This has a light hearted feel to it the entire time and the humor isn't bad. But everyone just sort of blends in, the direction is just alright, and the subject matter while unique is just not made very interesting at all. This should've been an adventure type flick. But honestly if you wanted to be faithful to the source material than probably a mini series would've been more fitting for something like this. There just isn't a lot of action and it's just them finding art in little mini subplots that don't really add up to anything. While a great story I just don't see how this was fitting for a film. Skip This and read up on it instead. This fascinating, inspiring story should have made a great movie; however, it really dragged and I dozed off. The worst part was at the end as they don’t really show much of the beautiful art that was rescued. Disappointing.
