Barry Hertz Globe and Mail Unless you are on the programming committee for the most literally bloody-minded of film festivals, you have never experienced as ludicrously violent and gore-soaked a film as The Night Comes for Us. Oct 27, 2018 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire Here's hoping that someone of Tjahjanto's visceral talent eventually finds a way to stop the bleeding. Rated: C Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Katie Rife AV Club It uses a thin plot touching on the classic Hong Kong action themes of brotherhood and loyalty as an excuse to string together a series of gonzo action set-pieces so ingeniously bloody that one could conceivably classify the film as horror. Rated: B Oct 18, 2018 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn This was a master class in fight choreography, cinematography, and storytelling. I greatly enjoyed watching this! Rated: 4/5 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn This is incredibly violent to the point of disturbing. Nonetheless, the fight scenes are some of the best I've ever seen. But this is a very dark and depressing story. Rated: 3/5 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Nyle Coleman InSession Film The Night Comes For Us is a dynamite two hours and for those of us missing the action films of old, it's a breath of fresh air. Eagan U The okay story and the decent acting are heavily compensated by the creative choreography and downright shocking FX. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/24 Full Review Alpha B Wow! Was my first introduction to Indonesian action movies. Gritty and brutal with some of the best fight choreography I've ever seen. Uwais and Taslim for the win! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Gaming N iko uwais vs joe taslim was goated Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Sunu S Movie is so bad it's good. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review C H Quick, gruesome, stylish which personifies Indonesian movies. Iko Uwais and Joe Taslim were awesome as usual and Hollywood should learn from them. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Jens B This was a UGLY movie! - the color grading looked atrocious - the cgi was on the same level as SAW VII - the acting was cringeworthy - the score sounded like someone discovered the synth functions on a keyboard - really bad decisions/stylistic choices by the director - bad editing & camera angles (you could see them punch into thin air multiple times) - the violence didn't have any impact on me because of the bad direction - horrendous pacing - what was the deal with the girl again? - I couldn't remember anyone from previous scenes except Uwais (because he was in THE RAID), so I was confused the whole time + crazy violent ideas for killing people (that's what I wanted in the new HALLOWEEN movies) + still better fight choreography than ANY Hollywood movie ever + the parking garage/pool bollard/female killers fights were really good + the end fight was awesome In short: Ugly violent action flick that suffers from bad writing/direction/editing/music/acting and doesn't succeed in entertaining its audience for two hours.
