Critics Consensus

With a cast this talented, The Out-Laws can't help but provide some laughs -- but they're too few and far between to make up for the movie's derivative, sitcom-worthy setup.

The Out-Laws is good for a few chuckles, but not much more.

Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader DeVine manages to make unapologetic dweebishness charming, and the movie is elevated by a mish-mash of wonderful character-actor bit parts. Jul 10, 2023 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday Everything you need to know about this movie can be gleaned from its title. That's rarely a good sign. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 9, 2023 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire For a Netflix movie that was obviously reverse-engineered from its title, and even more obviously made by the director of The Wrong Missy, Tyler Spindel’s The Out-Laws could be a hell of a lot worse. Rated: C Jul 7, 2023 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com Mostly just undemanding, amusing stupidity, which used to be taken as a mild compliment back when comedy was actually a genre of movie that got made. Rated: B- Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Bhuvanesh Chandar The Hindu While you naturally grow a likeness to a film that throws a joke every 30 seconds, it’s a buzzkill that there is hardly anything worth remembering in a film that even has a high-speed car chase in a cemetery. Aug 25, 2023 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín Tyler Spindel may have a contract, work cheap, or is part of the company's inventory, but the truth is he doesn't show a talent that's worthy of the ensemble. Audience Member The Out-Laws is an absolutely hilarious action-comedy. An unlikely goody-goody bank manager working with some of the biggest bank robbers to retrieve what’s most important to him. An amazing watch if you’re wanting a good laugh Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/26/24 Full Review Jim S Truly bad. Why does Levine over act? A different lead could have made it watchable..I wanted to like it but he just drives me crazy with the stupid comments every scene. Just bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review matthias s "The Out-Laws" features a charming cast led by Adam Devine and Pierce Brosnan, whose performances provide a delightful distraction from the film's predictable plot. With very low expectations going in, I found it to be surprisingly decent—though it still falls short of true comedic brilliance. The humor didn't land as much as it should have for a comedy, leaving me chuckling only occasionally. The film feels soulless and lacks the creativity to offer anything new or memorable. While it serves as mindless entertainment, it's nothing more than that. Despite my initial apprehensions, it's not as bad as I expected, but I wish it had more depth and laughter. Overall, "The Out-Laws" is a watchable romp, but it’s a far cry from being a standout comedy. Terrible script and the main actor made this so cringey. Ruined it for everyone else. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review SK A Enjoyable, silly comedy with some funny dialogues and brisk action. I know most top critics were very critical of the movie but I thought it provided decent entertainment and this movie was better than a lot of other comedy/action films Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
