Critics Consensus

With a cast this talented, The Out-Laws can't help but provide some laughs -- but they're too few and far between to make up for the movie's derivative, sitcom-worthy setup.

Noah Berlatsky Chicago Reader DeVine manages to make unapologetic dweebishness charming, and the movie is elevated by a mish-mash of wonderful character-actor bit parts. Jul 10, 2023 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday Everything you need to know about this movie can be gleaned from its title. That's rarely a good sign. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 9, 2023 Full Review David Ehrlich IndieWire For a Netflix movie that was obviously reverse-engineered from its title, and even more obviously made by the director of The Wrong Missy, Tyler Spindel’s The Out-Laws could be a hell of a lot worse. Rated: C Jul 7, 2023 Full Review Karl Puschmann New Zealand Herald Despite its star cast, The Outlaws never feels bigger than a made-for-TV movie. If you paid to see it on the big screen you’d certainly feel robbed, but it gets away with being a decent enough, watch-and-forget viewing on a rainy winter night. Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Matt Pais MattPais.com Mostly just undemanding, amusing stupidity, which used to be taken as a mild compliment back when comedy was actually a genre of movie that got made. Rated: B- Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Bhuvanesh Chandar The Hindu While you naturally grow a likeness to a film that throws a joke every 30 seconds, it’s a buzzkill that there is hardly anything worth remembering in a film that even has a high-speed car chase in a cemetery. Len P Had to bail 15 minutes in. Just couldn’t bear to watch it any more. Adam DeVine’s slapstick acting belongs in the Charlie Chaplin era. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a movie where his character doesn’t irritate me, even small parts. He is not leading man material. Pathetic puerile vulgar sex jokes and innuendo. Just lazy script writing, which is the weakest element of this movie. Not much better from Richard Kind’s character. I selected this because I hoped Pierce Brosnan would be in a reasonable movie but alas, no. I feel sorry for him. The critics rating (22%) is about right, and only for those that like this genre. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/04/25 Full Review yuki dilla h The Out-Laws is good for a few chuckles, but not much more. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review John G Contained some good laughs. As a comedy, fan I thoroughly enjoyed it. Worth a watch if you are looking for something fun. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Myquali T I expected a better movie from Happy Madison and Adam Sandler, but this one was disappointing. It was packed with awkward moments, unfunny sexual jokes, unnecessary slurs, and a dull storyline. The dynamic between the clueless nice guy (Owen Browning) and the tough in-law (Pierce Brosnan) felt forced and ineffective. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Audience Member tired of ex-strippers painted up as pirates in the 1700s in movies anymore...but guess thats all they can get in Hollyweird anymore..
