04/14/2017 La Bruce is first and foremost a dedicated destroyer of cinema, and his chaotic movies are his weapons. If you can handle that, Reich feels just right. It also feels a lot more like pornography than actual filmmaking, not only because of the too many lengthy sex scenes but also because it shares a lot of many of the flaws of that genre. Still, this over stylised and over indulgent mess actually shows serious potential as an underground masterpiece before LaBruce's eccentricities become tedious and the charge of the film wanes as it progresses. Sure, there's a sex scene at every turn, but no porno I've seen has been as thought provoking, funny, endearing, sensual, or well-cast as Raspberry Reich. I'm sure the use of continual on-screen titles to emphasize the dialogue of the characters and slogans of "the revolution" divides audiences, but I enjoyed it. It gave the film its own unique style and made it audacious. It also lent a gravity and sincerity to the characters' convictions; without this, I don't think the film would have felt as legitimate.
