Nick F Very few B-movies feature a potential Oscar winner, but you see one in The Restless Breed, a 1957 Western with 26 year old Anne Bancroft in a minor role. Ten years later she won an Oscar for her role in The Graduate and went on to win many more awards. In The Restless Breed, she plays a young woman attracted to a gunman who has come to a small border town to seek out the man who killed his father. But any romance is constantly hampered by an interfering priest, ably played by Welsh actor Rhys Williams - already a veteran of more than 60 movies - who thinks the avenging gunman is a far from an ideal suitor. This uncertain romance unfolds amid an inevitable shoot-out as gunman Scott Brady finally closes in on his target. This is a solid traditional--style Western, well-directed by Allan Dwan, and with an unusual storyline and an unpredictable ending.
