I'd read the Guardian review online (which contradicted itself while trying to be snarky/clever: nothing new there) so didn't expect much, but - excluding the liberties taken with physics, natural topography &, for all I know, regional history, certain obligatory movie/TV military tropes/silliness (fire arrows, the chaotic melees etc.) & a leaden, humourless, East European feel to the script - I've seen worse. The love interest (yawn) was predictable, the main "good" male characters dull ciphers. There was a degree of screaming at the screen here. I LIKED the Mongols (kit looked good,& they spoke something I took to be Mongolian). The female characters were more interesting than the men (tropes aside). And nobody shouted "Fire" to shoot arrows (or, if they did I never noticed). A LOT of people put in a lot of effort. Shame more wasn't done with the script. SKY billed it as a cross between Game of Thrones & Braveheart (is that a selling point..? Hmmm.) See more John S @JohnStevo Jan 24 Major disappointment. Although Europe fell into colonial subjugation under the Mongol Empire, the European warriors who fought desperately against the Mongol Empire invasion are recorded as some of the greatest warriors in all of world history.
