Stan G Based on a novel from 1883, the concept and historical time period were very interesting. Cinematography was also often gorgeous in the Carpathian Mountains. Production values, not so much, with sometimes wooden dialogue and some ill-lit scenes, here it gets maybe a B- or C+ versus A- for the other. The physics regarding the flood needed more exploration. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Frederick J Easy to watch historical adventure movie , enough to keep you watching till the end and likeable characters and great villains. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Sridhar V Well made movie, very watchable. Excellent performance by Poppy Drayton. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/23 Full Review Evie H Really quite awful considering some of the acting talent there. So disappointing. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/23 Full Review James S An excellent low budget film. Enjoyed it very much. Hard to understand the huge difference between audience score and critics. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/06/23 Full Review john c This movie is nowhere near as terrible as the rating score would have you believe. Some elements of poor writing (clunky contrivances, details here and there that don't make a lot of sense) let the film down somewhat, but there's enough emotional pull to make this a watchable film. The main protagonist and his love interest are relatively likable characters, while Tserenbold Tsegmid puts in a solid performance as the ruthless Mongol Khan bringing destruction to their village in the Carpathian mountains. It's fair to say that this movie is flawed and fails to live up to its fullest potential, but it's far from the dire snooze-fest some critics have painted it as. Ellen E Jones Guardian It's a dull historical action drama that is in desperate need of some gratuitous sex or violence to liven up its near two-hour running time. Rated: 1/5 Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming Fall of a Kingdom looks like any other historical drama. But without the punch and dedication desperately needed to meet the filmmaker's admirable ambition, the action and drama fall flat before the plot can properly get underway. Rated: 2/5 May 4, 2021 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue You've seen many aspects of this Ukrainian battle epic handled better elsewhere, although like its characters, the film makes a valiant effort considering its limited resources. Oct 9, 2020 Full Review Frank Swietek One Guy's Opinion Hardly of David Lean quality, but if you're willing to accept a hokey medieval adventure of the sort Hollywood used to turn out in the fifties, it might provide a fairly agreeable time. Rated: C Oct 1, 2020 Full Review Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com An appealing handle on B-movie action and emotional content, while the performances find the vibe of the production with refreshing ease, supporting the effort with enjoyable thespian intensity. Rated: B Oct 1, 2020 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film There's a different energy amongst those cast members who have grown up with the story and, given the local prestige of the film, there's impressive talent among their ranks.
