      Critics Consensus

It's hard not to admire its often ungainly attempts to achieve its ambitions, but The Scary of Sixty-First is a horror provocation that disappoints as often as it thrills.

Cath Clarke Guardian To me this feels like a silly smirking film with zero insights into abuse or conspiracy theories. Rated: 2/5 Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Becca James Chicago Reader All of this takes place in what Nekrasova has likened to Eyes Wide Shut New York, and it is, in fact, as alluring as its influences, pulling viewers into a film that teeters between absurdly funny and absurdly frightening. Jan 22, 2022 Full Review Stephen Romei The Australian As important as that subject is, this film doesn't work for me. I think it's contrived and pointless. It tells us nothing new. Rated: 2/5 Jan 8, 2022 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground The Scary of Sixty-First doesn't always completely come together, but Nekrasova has crafted an uncompromising and compelling movie that plays like a slap in the face and isn't easily forgotten. Jul 8, 2022 Full Review Eve Tushnet Patheos This is a movie where when you hear what it is, your first reaction is gonna be, “That should not have been made,” and while I often defend that kind of movie… this movie should not have been made. Mar 21, 2022 Full Review Kevin Carr Fat Guys at the Movies At times it goes into some chilling elements, and then other times it swerves off the rails. Jeffrey P Epstein conspiracy theory horror film that you've all been waiting for. The style and sound are decent, the retro vibe is enough to carry it when nothing else does... and then it ends. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/12/23 Full Review Tom D Just don't. But if you must, wait until you can watch it for free. You'll regret that $3.99 you spent to rent it. I can't think of any movie EVER that was as bad as this. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/30/23 Full Review Chelsea L The Jeffrey Epstein thing was a little gross - like too soon and not funny- but it was mostly the bag wigs that did it for me. This was awful. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/10/23 Full Review Audience Member the Scary of 61st, The Stupid of 61st, The Horny of 61st... I don't know what to call it. It's not quite bottom of the barrel though thanks to the stupid comedy and um -- memorable -- sex scenes.. 1.6/10 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member a boring, pointless waste of time. To call this a misfire would be an understatement. I’d avoid this one. Wish I did. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/04/22 Full Review Audience Member A film that is so adroitly put together that you can't help but appreciate the fragmented moments that actually work – no matter how many questions you'll be dying to ask the people who made this movie once it's over, (chief among them: "Okay sure, but really???")
