Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) Tiller Russell's fast-moving, invigorating documentary will make very gratifying viewing for fans of all those New York-set cop movies by Martin Scorsese and Sidney Lumet. Rated: 4/5 Aug 20, 2015 Full Review Jonathan Romney Observer (UK) The talking heads approach gets a bit relentless, but it's hair-raising stuff. Rated: 4/5 Aug 16, 2015 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Dowd's account to camera of his misdeeds is every bit as audacious as his criminal acts. A born raconteur, he pulls the viewer in just as he did to his various accomplices. Rated: 4/5 Aug 14, 2015 Full Review C.H. Newell Father Son Holy Gore A true-to-life documentary that feels ripped out of a Martin Scorsese film plot. Rated: 5/5 May 5, 2019 Full Review Tom Graham CineVue The result is like a cheap cop show, not something you'd choose to watch in the cinema. stoner j Was this Goodfellas, or a dirty cop documentary? Absolutely thrilling story told in a way that it feels like Goodfellas… really good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review stoner j The most thrilling documentary I've ever seen. Dowd takes you on an unbelievable journey through his dirty cop years. It's like watching goodfellas! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This staggering documentary depicts and delves into the 75th police precinct in New York, which serves the eastern portion of Brooklyn, during the 1980's. Buckling under a narcotics epidemic at the time, cop Michael Dowd, "a crook in a cops uniform", tells his own tale along with members of his crew in an unyielding and frankly astounding tale of corruption. What makes the tale all the more incredible is being able to see a seemingly unremorseful Dowd retell it for us, years after he has served time for his crimes. Compelling and gripping, this is a real eye opener. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Could only make it 25min through the doc bc I got sick of Dowd smiling and laughing as he recalled stories of his disgusting corruption. May be karma gets him by the end of the movie, but I won't stick around to find out. This ex-cop is a total piece of shit. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A Netflix crime doc that had highlighted police corruption at the peak of the crack cocaine era Gave a lot of insight into an area I knew little about. Scenes were well edited and stories were larger-than-life. Yet, this is not ground-breaking in its genre or present anything new. The documentary did not resonate well with me long after watching. 3.5/5. 4/5 on a good day. Though a good documentary. I cannot honestly give a higher rating. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member The wife and I gave this a spin via TiVo recording, and it was a pretty fascinating look at the corruption in the 75th Precinct of NYC circa the mid '80s. The cops involved all seem to be there to narrate things, even those that did tie for their misdeeds, and more than one seems to be more bragging about this shit than apologetic, so it makes for really interesting viewing. Well worth a look, recommended. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
