Critics Consensus

The Strangers: Prey at Night may appeal to fans of the original who've been jonesing for a sequel, but its thin story and ironic embrace of genre tropes add up to a bloody step back.

Grimly efficient sequel to the 2008 shocker The Strangers. Go to Full Review

With its infuriatingly dim-witted characters and generic slasher movie feel, The Strangers: Prey At Night is a surprisingly tame and forgettable rehash. Go to Full Review

No tension, no drama, no interest, no scares, no emotional involvement and no motive. No chance. Go to Full Review

The movie is a wash of reprocessed horror gimmicks which we’ve all seen over and over. Go to Full Review

Prey at Night makes the audience feel everything it wants us to, and what's more, it outdoes the original in every way, making for an unexpected, satisfying slasher - a rarity to be sure. Go to Full Review

I loved watching this film, for one reason and one reason only: it is gorgeous. Go to Full Review

Allyssa Deleon Apr 21 Hated it, walked out. See more Crazy P Oct 10 Not really a fan of scary movies but my daughter likes them a lot. To me this was tolerable and got some of my attention. My daughter says this is her favorite out of all the strangers series. Background music was nostalgic and enjoyable. Would watch again if I had to. My daughter made me purchase and I got a discount so it was worth it. See more Manuel G Sep 23 Pray at Night offers nothing new—just another round of masked killers who appear everywhere with impossible ease, cutting down victims effortlessly while requiring near-dismemberment to stop. The imbalance is exhausting: the “good guys” spend 95% of the film running and suffering, leaving only scraps of resistance. Instead of suspense, we get recycled clichés that prove once again this franchise is content to chase its own shadow. See more Marvin L. @MarvoLogo Sep 21 Not as good as the original but still fun See more Randy O Sep 1 This movie was so dumb, I started rooting for the bad guys. I wish I had a time machine so I could get back the time I wasted on this movie. See more K K Aug 12 Let me say when I catch these movies online and don't watch them in the theater, I get so PISSED at myself. I want to know how these sorts of movies came across on the MOVIE THEATER. This movie works well enough for streaming, TV movies, but how did it come across in movie theaters? I will never know unless one day I buy a movie theater and put it in on the rotation of "horror movie only in theater room 13". So many movies might need another go in theaters. This one was made for 5 million and made 30 million. Pretty darn good. So there are very good actors in this flick. Martin Henderson is an actor that whenever I see him in a movie, he was in Little Fish (2005), one of the better Indie, smaller budget sort of movies in the last 30 years. Great cast. The Ring (2002). The other actors are also good in The Strangers and Prey at Night, including the psychos. The latter may not talk much, if any, but they act in other ways. I loved the music choices in this flick. See more Read all reviews
