Flinty bandit Black Deering (William S. Hart) seeks to exact vengeance on Tom Jordan (Joseph Singleton) after he gets left high and dry by the man during a botched train heist. Deering locates his enemy in a small town where he is now the local big shot. Furious, he then sets fire to several businesses, before hightailing it out of there. Finding refuge, he escapes to the ranch of Mary Brown (Anna Q. Nilsson), a kindhearted woman who attempts to reform Deering of his no-good ways.
